Joho Sets Timeline for Coast's Secession From Kenya

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Thursday set a timeline by which he was assertive the Coast region would have seceded from the rest of the country.

Speaking on Thursday after witnessing the swearing-in of seven county executive members, Governor Joho assured that Coast's secession plan was on course.

"We must secede after one month, a year or two, five years or even 10 years. This is a conversation that we must have. Kenya won't be the first and last country to agitate for secession. It has happened elsewhere," he explained.

He highlighted how serious the issue was and that it would solve many problems experienced by Coastal residents.

"People will feel their voices count and marginalization will no longer be used as a political tool but for positive action.

"We will make every person understand why the journey to secession is irreversible," he added.

Governor Joho however conferred that his plan was not the same one as the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) because of their illegal activities.

"Unlike them, we recognize Coast is Kenya but we want self-rule through legal means," he stated.

He explained that the region had been marginalized when it came to forming the government during elections.

"It is curious that Coast has not been voting for the government of the day in the last five elections and the fact that we have been defeated in forming respective governments through manipulation means it is time for our own regime," he conveyed.
