Student Dies In Kenyatta University Chaos

A first-year Kenyatta University student died on Friday amidst the chaos that rocked the institution from Thursday night.

She was reportedly killed by a group of boda-boda riders who got involved in the protests.

The riders usually operate around the institution.

The chaos stemmed from two rival factions who had taken opposing positions on the election of Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA) officials.

The institution was closed indefinitely on Friday.

Students had also complained about the poor condition of their living facilities.

All students were ordered to vacate the university premises.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Daystar University have also been closed in similar circumstances.

The closures come at a time when lecturers are on strike over the failure of the government to implement the 2013-2017 CBA.

The strike has practically crippled learning in public universities as it enters its fourth week.
