Safaricom Named Africa's Best Telco

Safaricom was on Monday night named the African Telecom Operator of The Year for 2017 at the prestigious CommsMEA Awards held in Dubai.

Safaricom had been pitted in the same category as Maroc Telecom, Airtel Africa and Vodacom.

The awards place a spotlight on the communication sector in the Middle East and Africa while highlighting trends and innovation in the industry.

Executives including CEOs, regulators and vendors were present at the glitzy ceremony held at Grosvenor House in Dubai.

The twelfth edition featured 15 categories.

Safaricom is East and Central Africa's best-performing company.

The leading telecommunications company is also arguably the region's most innovative organization.

The company's most recognizable offering is the globally recognized mobile money platform, M-Pesa.

There are currently over 26 Million M-Pesa users.

Over the past 10 years, transactions worth over Sh184 Billion have been carried out on the platform.
