Evidence of How Voters Were Bribed During Elections Emerges

Migori Governor Okoth Obado is facing trouble after a number of voters in his county claimed he bribed them ahead of the August General Election.

Five witnesses appeared at the Migori High Court on Tuesday stating that Mr Obado gave them cash to vote for him.

Lucas Opere, a boda-boda rider from Awendo, told the court that they received Sh1,000 during a meeting with operators in March.

"A ward administrator told us the Governor gave the money," he was quoted by the Star.

Tom Omollo, a driver, revealed that he received Sh300 from Obado's handlers in April during a meeting for Sony Sugar Company workers.

"The goodies came through his agent, which I gave to a mama mboga," he revealed.

The witnesses told the court that Obado should be charged as the first suspect.

They testified during the hearing of a petition filed by politician Ochillo Ayacko against Obado's victory.

Ayacko's lawyer, Odhiambo Roche, revealed that they have more witnesses who will testify on the same.

The case has not been short of drama as two weeks ago, a man believed to be a witch doctor was ejected during the hearing.

Police officers frisked members of the public accessing the court and a man wearing a Muslim hat was turned away for suspicious behaviour.
