You Can Swear-in Raila But On One Condition - NASA Told

A section of leaders allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) have in recent weeks threatened to swear-in opposition Raila Odinga and government spokesman Eric Kiraithe has told them that they can do so but on one condition.

Speaking on Thursday during a media briefing, Kiraithe stated that the government would not be concerned with NASA's actions as long as the swearing-in is done in private.

“The question of a person congregating his friends to swear him in is not an issue and has no legal concern.

“If they held it somewhere without interfering with the rights of other people, then the government would not even be concerned," stated Kiraithe.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to be sworn-in next Tuesday and there are fears that Odinga will be sworn-in on the same day.

Kiraithe bashed the opposition for quoting the constitution out of context to suit their needs and warned them against spreading propaganda.

“Placing wave after wave of deceptive propaganda on the toiling shoulders of your supporters is not leadership and declaring yourself a people’s president does not even make you an MCA.

“It just makes you and your followers criminals.

“Today, Kenyans know their MCAs, MPs, Woman reps, Senators, Governors and on November 20, the Supreme Court confirmed the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the president-elect of the republic,” he added.

On Wednesday, the European Union released a statement on the recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld Kenyatta's victory and asked leaders from both sides of the political divide to engage in constructive talk for the country to progress.
