Senior members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), one of Germany's biggest parties, have come up with a new proposal to form the 'Kenya' coalition with other parties as the country seeks a way out of their current impasse.
The country encountered a political crisis when, after elections on September 24, SDP refused to form a coalition with Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
Now, Gesine Schwan and Wolfgang Thierse of SDP have asked their party leader, Martin Schulz to consider the 'Kenya' coalition with CDU and the Green Party.
They named it the Kenya coalition as the colors of the three parties together would be the colors of the Kenyan flag.
In an open letter published in German publication Frankfurter Rundschau, the leaders state: "A so-called "Kenya coalition", ie a coalition of CDU/CSU, SPD and Greens, for which we opt, would have the democratic disadvantage that the government would have a crushing majority over the opposition and the opposition would provide no quantitative alternative."

Germany could be forced to conduct fresh elections if negotiations to form an inclusive government fail.
SDP has been the ruling CDU Party's main partner for the past eight years.
However, following the September 24 election, it refused to form a government with Chancellor Merkel for her latest term.
Negotiations by Merkel's party with three other smaller parties have so far failed spectacularly.
It had been dubbed the 'Jamaica' coalition because the parties' colors would make up the colors of the Jamaican flag, but could now be paving way for the 'Kenya' coalition.
