Political Experts Reveal Raila's 6 Possible Moves After Uhuru's Inauguration

Political experts have opined that Opposition Leader Raila Odinga has six possible moves he could use after President Uhuru Kenyatta has been inaugurated.

According to the experts, Mr Odinga first option involves accepting President Kenyatta's re-election, re-organising his team and give a better contest in 2022.

Secondly, the former Prime Minister can use the People's Assembly to force the current regime into dialogue.

Speaking to the Standard, Political expert and lawyer Martin Oloo explained that after President Kenyatta is sworn-in the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader might have no other option but to accept and play the role of Opposition Chief.

Mr Oloo, however, underscored that Odinga could still prepare himself and vie in 2022 or endorse one of the NASA Principals to be the next flag bearer.

"There is no other legal framework or basis to have another election. Effectively, what Raila needs now is to rethink what he wants. If he wants to go the people’s assembly way, let him go the full hog and this might lead to a referendum,” Oloo stated.

Oloo's remarks were opposed by Prof Herman Manyora who opined that the swearing-in of President Kenyatta does not limit Mr Odinga's option.

“Its a wrong a premise that once Uhuru has been sworn-in, then the NASA leader will no longer have room. About half of the country has said they will not recognise Uhuru and that raises serious legitimate issues,” he stated.

The Opposition can also settle for amendment of the constitution to factor in their reforms with regards to the IEBC.

Lastly, the coalition can continue with their resistance movement and frustrate the government into giving in to their demands.
