President Uhuru Kenyatta Welcomes First Grandchild

The first family welcomed a new member after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s first son, Jomo Kenyatta and wife Fiona Achola welcomed a baby girl on Sunday.

Fiona Achola, who wed Jomo last year in a traditional Kikuyu wedding, gave birth to “Baby Wanjiru”, the couple’s first child.

Baby Wanjiru, who is President Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret’s first grandchild, was born at the Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi.

Achola Kenyatta is the granddaughter of the late Dr. William Odongo Omamo and niece to Defence Cabinet Secretary, Raychelle Omamo.

This is an early present for the President-elect who is set to be inaugurated on Tuesday, November 28, for his second term in office.

Those present at the hospital indicated that Kenyatta showed up minutes after the baby was born and was excited about meeting the baby girl.

There was heavy security at the hospital though there were no interruptions as the young Mrs. Kenyatta was in the VIP wing.

Details of the pregnancy had been a closely kept secret and not many even knew that the young couple was expecting.

However, a heavily pregnant Achola and her husband attended an event together with the First Lady at the Marula Manor last week when people had a glimpse of the new mother.

This was also the same case with their dating life which only came to the limelight after their traditional wedding.
