Thieves Raid Government Offices

Criminals broke into three government offices located within the Nyandarua County Commissioner's compound and made away with seven computers containing potentially sensitive information.

The thieves stole five computers, two laptops, and other equipment.

Nyandarua County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti was on the spot on Thursday over the burglary as it appeared the thieves were working with an insider at the premises.

He stated: “No ordinary thief takes such a big risk to raid a protected area. They knew what they wanted and where to get it.

"We want to know what information was on those computers and who were the custodians,” he added.

The thieves used a key to access one of the offices and used crude weapons to break into two others.

The raided offices were of the National Land Commission (NLC), Social Services, and Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme (ASDSP).

The County Commissioner also stated that Administration Police officers who were on duty on the night of the burglary would be investigated.

A detective investigating the matter explained: "We are trying to understand how the items left the compound. Some county government staff work past midnight to meet their deadlines. We also know that the governor works very late at night. We do not know how the thieves learned that there was no staff at the county offices last night.”

The burglary raised suspicion as on August 28, computers containing procurement data were stolen from the Ministry of Education County Headquarters.

Similar cases have been reported in various counties in recent times.
