Opposition MPs Issue New Statement on Ditching NASA

A section of Opposition Members of Parliament from the Coast region have announced that they will not quit the National Super Alliance (NASA) but will instead stay and fight for more stake in the coalition.

The legislators led by Kilifi North MP Owen Baya noted that their move to reject the nominees for house positions in parliament should not be misinterpreted.

MP Baya further noted that they arrived at the new decision after meeting NASA leader Raila Odinga on Saturday.

He explained that the meeting resolved to amend the list and include a number legislators adding that they expected a reversal of the controversial list today.

“We expect a major announcement on Tuesday that will see the list of NASA positions in the National Assembly and Senate benefit Coast region.

"We are in ODM and NASA to stay but we will fight more for space for the Coast region. Nothing comes without fighting,” Baya was quoted by the Standard.

His sentiments were echoed by Kinango legislator Benjamin Tayari who mentioned that the leaders were promised a number of parliamentary jobs this week.

“We had talks with Raila and the outcome was positive. Coast is likely going to get one of the key posts in Parliament after changes,” Tayari stated.

Meanwhile, Kenyans.co.ke has learned that NASA has amended the list of nominees with two legislators from the coast included in the new structure.

The two; Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her Mvita counterpart Abdulswamad Nassir have been nominated for was also nominated for a seat at the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) and vice chairman of the Public Investment Committee (PIC) respectively.
