Orengo Speaks on Sponsoring MPs to Reject NASA's Appointments in Parliament

Siaya Senator James Orengo on Monday denied allegations that he influenced coast legislators to reject the House parliamentary list presented by the opposition.

In a statement posted on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Mr Orengo stated that the claims were a scheme by some columnists to defame him.

“This is the work of 5th columnists whose menu is toxic intrigues blended with reactionary and primitive politics,” Mr Orengo stated.

He further defended himself affirming that he did not ‘have an insatiable appetite and greed for office or personal gain’.

Senator Orengo responded to the allegations after a section of coastal MPs aligned to the National Super Alliance declined to endorse the House Minority leader and the coalition’s whip.

NASA had proposed Suba MP John Mbadi as Minority LEader and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed as the Chief Minority Whip.

However, the coalition’s Coast MPs led by Suleiman Dori of Msambweni protested over the list stating that they would not allow being discriminated against.

The lawmakers remarked that the list lacked regional representation yet the Opposition had received overwhelming support from the Coast region in the August 8 elections.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga defended the list and ascertained that other parliamentary committee slots would be filled by women.

“The four positions are not the only positions within NASA. The party will be bringing other women forward in very many other positions moving forward,” defended Wanga.
