Kalonzo's Son Lands New Position in EALA

Kennedy Musyoka was on Monday elected Vice-Chairman of the East African Legislative Assembly (Kenya Chapter).

He will deputise former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua who was elected Chairman.

Florence Jematia will serve as Secretary-General of the Chapter.

The Kenyan representatives at EALA resolved to back them following the Inauguration of the Fourth Assembly of the regional Parliament.

Kenya finally submitted its list of  9 representatives to EALA after delaying the operations of the house by six months.

This was due to the lengthened electioneering period experienced in the country.

The elected nominees to EALA from Kenya are Simon Mbugua, Florence Jematiah, Mpuri Aburi, Aden Noor, Wanjiku Muhia, Oburu Oginga, Kennedy Kalonzo, Abdikadir Aden and Fatuma Ibrahim.

Following the swearing-in of the legislators, they were supposed to elect the Speaker of the assembly.

This was, however, hit by a quorum hitch after members from Burundi and Tanzania deliberately walked out of the session.

The move was meant to paralyze the hearing of a petition filed by a member from Uganda which aims to bar a Tanzanian representative from contesting in the election of the Speaker.

Members from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan demanded that the election go on without their Tanzanian and Burundian counterparts.
