NTSA Issues New Directive to All Kenyan Drivers

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Tuesday stated that any vehicle that stalls must be removed from the road within an hour lest it be towed away to the nearest police station.

NTSA Director General, Francis Mejja, in a statement added that all cautionary measures should be taken to alert other road users.

“The Authority wishes to notify the public that in line with its mandate and pursuant to section 106 (1) of the Traffic Act, all stalled vehicles on the roads must be removed within one hour upon stalling.

"Motorists and motor vehicle owners are further advised that immediately upon stalling of a vehicle, cautionary measures should be taken to alert other road users,” he stated.

Mejja further added that drivers should use visible signage and notify both NTSA and police in case a car stalls.

“The measures include placement of clearly visible signage and notifying NTSA on 0718555999 or the National Police Service on 999/911” read the statement.

In recent weeks, several accidents have occurred and close to 150 people have lost their lives.

17 people were killed on Sunday evening in a grisly road accident along the Thika-Garissa highway near Kilimambogo.

The accident took place at around 8.30pm and involved a 14-seater matatu and a lorry.

According to police, the Kitui-bound matatu was trying to avoid hitting a bodaboda rider when it collided head-on with the lorry.
