Raphael Tuju Clears The Air on His Arrest in Tanzania

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has on Tuesday dismissed allegations that he together with three other Kenyans were arrested in Tanzania.

Speaking to Standard Digital, Tuju confirmed that he had neither been arrested nor detained by the Tanzanian authorities.

“I am not in jail, in fact, you can come buy me some tea and mandazi," he joked.

Regarding those behind the allegations, Tuju explained: “There are people who thrive on rumors and propaganda but sadly, there is nothing we can do about it.”

The Jubilee Party Secretary-General had been missing in action since the Supreme Court ruling that upheld President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election was delivered.

On Monday, the Jubilee Party announced that its Secretary-General had been in Rwanda where he was attending an official function.

Mr Tuju was the face of Jubilee Party and President Kenyatta's team during his re-election campaign.

In October, the Party through the Secretary-General moved to the Supreme Court seeking contempt of court orders against Opposition Leader Raila Odinga.

In the case, Tuju argued that Mr Odinga's withdrawal from the repeat Presidential race was in contempt of court.

"The petitioners (Raila Odinga and other Kalonzo Musyoka) have engaged in conduct that can only be termed as illegal, unlawful and disrespectful, all geared towards ensuring that the orders of this Honourable Court as contained in its determination of 01 September 2017 not implemented,” Tuju's affidavit read in part.
