Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo has announced that Education CS Fred Matiang'i will be summoned to Parliament to explain the 2017 KCSE results.
According to Odhiambo, the failure of 545,700 students (87% of candidates), to meet the required grade for university admission means Matiang'i should not be allowed to stay in office.
"Matiang’i is so irrational and should not be allowed to hold state office especially after it has been proved that he has failed the entire education system," he stated on Thursday.
The 2017 KCSE results were released on Thursday, and only 142 Plain A's were recorded in the whole country, up from 141 in 2016.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion stated that the results should be cancelled due to irregularities in the marking of papers.

"KNEC must cancel the results because they were not taken through the normative regulation system. The CS should not have released the results because you cannot award marks based on the raw marks," he affirmed.
National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga, while appreciating the efforts made to reduce cases of exam cheating, raised concern with the low transition rate to university.
"I am deeply concerned at the high number of students that are failing to make the transition to university. The overall number of candidates with minimum university entry qualification, Grade C+ and above stands at only 11.38. Close to 90 percent of the KCSE candidates have failed.
"As a society, we must listen to the cries of the candidates, the parents and teachers’ unions on this matter and have a serious conversation about this worrying trend of very low transition to the university that has been witnessed in recent years. Our country demands it, we must not give up on our children," the former Prime Minister stated.
He explained that the increased investment in the education sector should lead to improved performance.
