Kenyans were on Monday engrossed in debates on social media platforms over a meeting between National Super Alliance (NASA) lawmaker John Mbadi and US Ambassador Robert Godec.

Under the topic #NASAMeetsGodec, many NASA supporters questioned the reasons for the meeting, as they accused Godec of working to derail a plan to swear in NASA leader Raila Odinga as the 'People's President' on January 30.

After the meeting, Mbadi announced: "Ambassador Robert F. Godec says that he has a problem understanding the dialogue between Jubilee and NASA. Because each party has their own conditions."

Ambassador Godec, after the meeting, reiterated calls for national dialogue led by religious and business leaders to take place.

Mbadi maintained that the former Premier's swearing-in would take place, refuting allegations that some top NASA leaders were opposed to the plan.

Energy CS Charles Keter

Under the topic 'Energy CS Charles Keter', Kenyans discussed the Energy Cabinet Secretary's move to address concerns over an alleged plan by Kenya Power (KP), to have electricity consumers pay Sh8.1 Billion in backdated power bills.

Kenyans had been outraged by the decision which seemed to confirm that costs had been hidden from consumers during the campaign year.

KP claimed that a severe drought last year forced them to increase the uptake of expensive diesel-generated electricity.

Following the public outrage, CS Keter on Monday calmed fears by asserting that the bills were not backdated and that consumers will no longer be charged based on estimations, blaming estimation for the inflated bills.

Netizens maintained that they expected lower power bills following the declaration.
