Some Class 1 Pupils Asked to Report to School With Desks

Parents were outraged after the administration of  Moto Primary School in Molo informed them that pupils joining Class One would be required to report with desks.

They were forced to pay close to Sh2, 000 to acquire the desks from carpenters in the area.

The Headteacher, Joseph Mungai, claimed that the school's problems were as a result of its peculiar location.

Being on the border of Kuresoi North and Molo constituencies, Mungai maintained that it had been difficult to access funding from the CDF (Constituency Development Fund) kitty.

“Our school is administratively in Kuresoi North but it is under Molo in terms of education issues. Lack of funding has made it difficult to run the school affairs,” Mungai stated.

In a conversation with Kenyans.co.ke on the matter, Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi expressed his willingness to work with the school to improve the situation.

Mr Cheboi, however, questioned the Headteacher's explanation, noting that no request had been made by the school during the public participation forums that determine how CDF is shared.

He revealed that Moto Secondary School, located close to the Primary School, had received at least a million shillings from CDF in 2017.

Another primary school located barely two kilometres from Moto Primary also received the funds.

He also noted the school was under MP Kimani Kuria's Molo constituency on matters education.

He further challenged the school's administration to account for funds they received from the Free Primary Education (FPE) kitty.
