CS Balala Introduces New Requirement For Airport Workers

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala on Wednesday introduced a new requirement for airport workers.

Speaking during an impromptu visit at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Balala stated that workers at the airport needed to exercise professionalism.

"JKIA is the first point of entry into the country. It portrays the image of the destination (Kenya) both in terms of investment and in terms of holiday makers.

"Within 100 days we must disrupt what was not working and improve what is working.

He announced that in the coming months, all workers handling customers at the airport must be trained in customer care.

"We have public servants who are doing their duties in a good way but are not trained in customer care.

"Every public servant who works here in the next 100 days must be trained and have certified examination on customer care," he remarked.

Balala was in the company of Transport CS James Macharia and his Interior counterpart Fred Matiang'i who also stressed the need for streamlining of services at the airport,

The three visited the airport very early in the morning to monitor operations.

Interestingly, they are part of the 6 CSs that were retained by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the new cabinet.

The Head of State made the announcement last week at State House and his decision has attracted a lot of debate.

Earlier this week, a section of Jubilee Party MPs threatened to quit and join the National Super Alliance (NASA) if Mr Kenyatta does not re-appoint Water CS Eugene Wamalwa in his new team.

Kimilili MP Didimus Barasa claimed that the President had short-changed leaders from Western Kenya yet Wamalwa was the face of Jubilee in Bungoma.

He added that he would lead five other MPs from Trans-Nzoia and Bungoma County out of the ruling party.
