Changes Kalonzo's Team Want Made in NASA Leadership

The Wiper Party on Wednesday held a meeting where it proposed changes to the National Super Alliance (NASA) nominees to parliamentary committees.

Led by NASA Principal Kalonzo Musyoka, the party members held a meeting in Nairobi where Borabu Member of Parliament Ben Momanyi was proposed to be a nominee for member of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

According to Wiper, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) violated a deal with the Musyoka led party that provided for a formula for sharing the parliamentary positions when they nominated Homa Bay County Woman Rep Gladys Wanga and Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa to PSC at the expense of Wiper.

"There has been disquiet in NASA over sharing of House leadership positions. We demand a revocation. We have instructed the party leader Kalonzo to get the positions shared as earlier agreed," Wiper chairman Governor Kivutha Kibwana stated.

Secondly, Mr Musyoka's team wants a reversal of nominees to committees and a retreat of all elected members done so as to arrive at a consensus.

"It is not a light matter. Our members have expressed strong sentiments that when Mr Kalonzo was away, the committee positions were not shared as agreed,” he explained.

This is not the first time that there has been disagreement in the coalition over sharing of positions in the National Assembly.

Last year, the Amani National Congress (ANC) also cried foul accusing ODM of bullying coalition partners in the house nominations.

According to ANC, the Orange Democratic Movement took the Public Accounts Committee chairmanship through Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, although it had allegedly been allocated to Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi.

A section of leaders from ODM, however, defended Mr Wandayi's election stating that the vocal MP was elected because of his integrity and good work in parliament.
