Kenya Meat Commission Manager Sacked for Embarrassing Uhuru

A manager at the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC), who allegedly embarrassed President Uhuru Kenyatta during a past tour at the plant, has moved to court after he was fired by the company.

Mr Patrick Shitsama, who was a Production Manager is accused of having delayed a meeting organised for the President Danny Faure of Seychelles during his visit to Kenya in April 2017.

The sacked official now claims that he was not given a fair hearing before he was let go in September 2017.

His lawyer, John Khaminwa, has sought an audience with the Labour Relations Court arguing that his client's constitutional rights were violated.

"His constitutional rights are infringed and will continue to be violated forthwith with the recruitment process without affording him an opportunity to lawfully appeal the decision to have him summarily dismissed," Mr Khaminwa stated.

KMC Managing Commissioner Joseph Learamo is said to have demanded a written explanation concerning Mr Shitsama's mishap that led to delaying the visiting Head of State.

The former Production Manager outlined in court papers that he gave a sufficient explanation to the Managing Commissioner and argues it was not considered.

The court papers did not elaborate on the cause of the delayed high-profile meeting, however, Mr Shitsama alleges that it was caused by internal challenges faced by the KMC during President Faure’s tour.

The Seychelles President visited Kenya in April and cemented a deal that will now see Kenya export livestock products to Seychelles, ranging from beef, lamb, goat, poultry, butter, ghee and powdered milk.

The two countries also resolved to collaborate in joint surveillance, patrols and capacity building to boost marine security – especially in the Exclusive Economic Zones.
