6 Answers Kalonzo Demanded Before Accepting Raila's Oath Plan

Agenda notes from crisis meetings held on Monday and Tuesday by National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders have revealed key questions that the 3 other principals demanded NASA leader Raila Odinga answer before they could get on-board with his swearing plan.

According to The Nation, the notes reveal that Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi were concerned with the lack of consultations before the decision to swear in Raila was reached, with claims that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was imposing it's decisions on the coalition.

The agenda notes allegedly reveal that the initial date for the planned swearing-in, December 12, and the new one, January 30, were both agreed on without the involvement of all the principals.

“How was the decision on the swearing in made public, especially the dates of December 12 and January 30? This scenario leaves those who were not consulted in an awkward position. It looks like they must tag along, regardless that they have not been party to the decisions,” the notes read in part.

Odinga had, on the day of President Uhuru Kenyatta's inauguration, announced that he would be sworn in on December 12 as the People's President, but this was eventually postponed.

Another question from the notes reveals concerns that the Government could retaliate during the swearing in ceremony and turn it into a bloodbath, especially after Attorney-General Githu Muigai deemed the planned event as treasonous.

“If Nasa supporters choose to march to State House after the swearing-in, will they get a safe passage or there is a real risk of a bloodbath? “If we are not taking power, are we going into the bush to fight? Do we have what it takes? If we do not have what it takes, are we ready to take responsibility for loss of citizens’ life in vain?” it posed.

Another concern was  the possibility of cancelling the event and the effect that the move would have on NASA supporters.

“In the event that we elect not to proceed with the swearing in, where will this leave us politically?

How do we manage damage in a population that feels disillusioned and betrayed because of the levels of expectations the swearing narrative has raised?” the question asked.
