Matiang'i's Ministry Goes After Standard Group

The Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government has written to Standard Group demanding an apology over a story that allegedly tainted CS Fred Matiang'i's image.

Mwenda Njoka, the Communications Director at the Ministry, stated that the article on page 2 of Standard Newspaper on January 23 - Vocal Minister in Illicit Affair with Choir Girl - was libelous.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mr Njoka confirmed that they were planning to sue the media house if they fail to issue an apology.

"The article was libelous and we demand a correction and apology from Standard Group, failure to which we will sue them," he remarked.

Although the article did not directly refer to the CS, Njoka stated that the adjectives used in the article have often been used by the Standard to refer to Matiang'i.

"In articles previously published in your newspaper, you have used adjectives such as 'no-nonsense, outspoken and strong Christian to describe CS Matiang'i.

"It is for this reason that we have reason to believe that the CS your article was disparagingly referring to is Dr. Matiang'i," stated Njoka.

He further stated that the CS is a hardworking public servant with a high degree of personal integrity.

"Dr Matiang'i is a hardworking, morally upright public servant and a family man with a high degree of personal integrity and rectitude who does not engage in the kind of immoral behaviour portrayed in the Standard Newspaper," he reiterated.

Njoka demanded that the apology should be 'published prominently' in the Standard by January 31.
