The Surprising Job Danson Mungatana is Shortlisted for

Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana is on a 25-man shortlist for the position of Clerk of the Tana River County Assembly.

The selection of the former Tana River gubernatorial candidate surprised many as during the campaigns, he declared that he would not settle for any position other than Governor.

When contacted by Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, Mungatana stated that he was not interested in the job but did not explain how he made the shortlist.

"I'm not interested," Mungatana stated when questioned on the Clerk's position.

He had previously applied to be the Tana River County Assembly Speaker but dropped out of the race two days to the election.

Justin Nkaduda was elected Speaker of the Assembly.

Mungatana now features on the shortlist for the clerk's position alongside former acting clerk Mohammed Hassan Dube and legal officer Timna Komora.

The assembly has been without a substantive clerk, with the position being held by an interim one appointed by the now-defunct Transition Authority.

Mungatana, a former Assistant Minister, ran for the Tana River Governor's seat but came in fourth with Rtd Major Godhana Godaye emerging victorious.

Elders from the region had endorsed Godaye but Mungatana maintained that he would be on the ballot.

He was part of a delegation led by Ababu Namwamba that filed a petition with the African Union against NASA leader Raila Odinga after the Supreme Court ordered a fresh Presidential election in 2017.
