MP Nixon Korir Attacked Over Lang'ata Fire

Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir on Friday came under attack over his explanation for the poor response to the massive fire in Kijiji, Southlands that has left hundreds of families homeless.

In an interview with KTN News, Korir stated that the response time from fire-fighters had been good, but lamented that 'they did not have water'.

"There was firefighting equipment there but unfortunately they didn't have water.

"I've tried talking to the Defence Forces because we have Langata barracks there but because of the bureaucracy, we could not get the fire-fighting equipment. I've tried calling the Wilson Airport but because of the bureaucracy we cannot get the equipment," Korir explained.

Kenyans online bashed him for his explanation, with many questioning who, then, should have ensured the fire-fighters had adequate water.

"How do fire trucks come to put out fire with no water. What were they coming to do then. Take photos?" one posed.

"Dear Nixon Korir response time includes firefighting engines having water to put out fires. Firefighters getting to the scene without water is incompetence and you should be fighting for your constituents not excusing mediocrity," another complained.

The fire broke out at 8 pm and grew into a massive inferno.

Four fire engines arrived on the scene and battled to put out the fire alongside area residents.

Three people have so far been confirmed dead following the fire.
