Siaya Governor Prevents Residents From Attending Raila's Swearing-in

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga on Monday disappointed hundreds of women and youth who were stranded in Siaya and Bondo after he failed to avail vehicles to transport them to Nairobi.

In Bondo town, women and youth had prepared to travel to Nairobi after the Governor promised on several occasions that he would give buses to ferry the residents to the 'swearing-in' ceremony of NASA leader Raila Odinga and his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka at Uhuru Park.

Rasanga's promise had motivated them to gather at the respective Bus Parks where they ended up waiting for the arrival of the buses till past midnight, expecting that they would come and pick them.

However, after a while, they lost patience when the Governor's Director of political affairs, Mr Leaky Abuoro, could not give an assurance of whether the vehicles would still be availed.

The residents then accused the Governor of playing with the minds of the over one million constituents of Siaya County.

The furious group condemned its elected leaders for abandoning them when other leaders from other counties worked tooth and nail to ensure their people got means to Nairobi, spent the night at the Bus Park until a time they got a clear information on the matter.

Some of them expressed great disappointment, noting that they would have organized their own means of transport to personally witness the ‘swearing-in’ of Mr Odinga "who is their son".

The Director of Political Affairs stated that the plan to ferry people in at least 18 buses as earlier promised by the Governor has failed due to financial constraints.

He, however, promised to avail a vehicle in the morning using his personal money to carry just a few women and youth to Nairobi.

Buses ferrying Mombasa residents were yesterday barred from continuing with their journey to Nairobi, however, they were released this morning.
