Uhuru's Emblem Along Kenyatta Avenue Brought Down

President Uhuru Kenyatta's emblem along Kenyatta avenue was brought down on Tuesday by a section of NASA supporters heading to Uhuru Park.

The supporters used ladders to access the structure which has the Coat of Arms at its centre with an outer circle bearing the words "Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya".

A few minutes later, a similar coat of arms was being carried around at Uhuru Park as the supporters chanted songs of victory.

Police later arrived at the scene and fired tear gas to disperse the supporters, though the Coat of Arms had already been removed.

Earlier on Tuesday, several local TV stations were switched off for allegedly transmitting live coverage of NASA supporters at Uhuru Park and other locations since the morning.

The move came a day after Kenya Editors Guild Chairman Linus Kaikai alleged that after editors were summoned to State House, media houses were threatened that their licences would be revoked if they covered National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga's swearing-in at Uhuru Park.

A statement from Royal Media Services (RMS) Managing Director Wachira Waruru confirmed the move, noting that the CA had shut down Inooro TV as well.

"We would like to confirm that this morning the CA disconnected Citizen and Inooro TV transmission.

"There has been no official communication as to why this action was taken and we are actively engaging the relevant authorities," the statement read in part.

NASA co-principals are set to hold a crisis meeting in Karen following the media shutdown ahead of the swearing-in.

According to Citizen Digital, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka noted that the Opposition Leaders were going to consult on the next step and condemned the media shut down.
