Police Reveal How Attack on Kalonzo's Home Went Down

Police Spokesperson Charles Owino on Wednesday gave details of the grenade attack on Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's Karen residence.

At a press briefing outside Kalonzo's home, Owino stated that the National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal, who missed Raila Odinga's swearing-in on Tuesday, called the police at 1:30 am to inform them of the attack.

A number of officers responded, with some from the bomb squad as well as the Karen OCPD.

Three guards from Cobra Security who had been on duty explained to the officers what had happened.

According to them, two vehicles had made their way towards the residence at 1:15 am, positioned themselves opposite the gate, hurled the grenade and opened gunfire before driving away.

Owino confirmed that they found the spot where the gadget had landed, explaining that the type of a grenade is used to scare rather than kill.

He further confirmed that the grenade was hurled inside Kalonzo's compound contrary to some reports claiming it exploded in the neighbourhood.

"It was a stun hand grenade. A hand stun grenade is a grenade that gives a loud bang, it's meant to scare, not to harm or kill

"It's different from a disintegrating hand grenade," Owino explained.

He further revealed that they were analyzing CCTV camera footage from cameras in the area, including those of Kalonzo's neighbours.

The Assistant Inspector-General also noted that due to the heightened political situation, all sorts of allegations were bound to be made.
