Kenyans in Diaspora Issue New Demand on Miguna Miguna

Kenyans in the diaspora have blasted the Government for deporting National Resistance Movement (NRM) self-declared General, Miguna Miguna, to Canada and demanded his immediate return to Kenya.

In a statement by Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA) Chairman Shem Ochuodho published on Thursday, they stated that while Miguna should abide by the law, the State should have respected his rights and obeyed court orders.

He wrote: "The State has, therefore, erred in summary deportation of Miguna Miguna, without first demonstrating that he had already renounced his Kenyan nationality as claimed by some."

"Even in that case, due process through the courts would have been necessary before deportation.

"In the absence of such, we call for his immediate unconditional return to Kenya as a bona fide citizen," Ochuodho continued.

The Chairman, however, condemned the swearing in of Raila Odinga as the People's President, terming it 'extrajudicial'.

"While condemning in equal measure the extrajudicial oathing by the Opposition, two wrongs cannot make a right. As a dual citizen, Miguna Miguna is a member of the Diaspora community. Even as we expect him to abide by the laws of Kenya, we also expect his rights to be fully respected," he maintained.

Miguna administered Odinga's oath on January 30 at Uhuru Park.

He was later charged with 'purporting to bind Raila Amollo Odinga to a capital offence of treason'.

Despite Justice Luka Kimaru ordering for his release, Miguna was placed on a KLM flight to Ontario, Canada on Tuesday night.

Miguna has since vowed to return to Kenya, maintaining that he has never renounced his Kenyan citizenship.
