Police Car Kills Mother and 3-year-old Daughter

A family in Kirinyaga was left mourning the demise of two of their loved ones after a 3-year-old girl and her mother were killed by a speeding administration police car on Tuesday.

It was reported that the woman was walking her daughter to school at around 7 am when they were hit at Rukanga along the Nairobi-Sagana highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the car was trying to overtake when it swerved and killed the two on the spot.

Area OCPD Samuel Seurey confirmed the incident and stated that the officer who caused the accident would face the full force of the law.

"Unfortunately we lost two people in the accident. The law is equal to all and once investigations are over we will take legal action," he was quoted by Nairobi news.

Earlier this year, a one-year-old child died at Bondo sub-county hospital after he was hit by a police vehicle.

The child, Alphonse Favour Onditi, is said to have been knocked by a vehicle that also belonged to the Administration Police as he played.

According to eyewitnesses, baby Favour, whose mother runs an M-Pesa shop at the entrance of the area Deputy County Commissioner's office, was playing at the gate when he was knocked down.

"The boy was running to pick a box which he was playing with when the vehicle ran over him," narrated an eyewitness.

Siaya county Police Coordinator, Patrick Lumumba Ombura, confirmed the incident and revealed that the body had been taken to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary.

Mr Lumumba further stated that the police officer who was driving the vehicle was released on bond.
