Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi Declared Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President

Advocate Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi has been announced as the new president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

Results from 38 polling stations on Thursday evening indicated that Mr Gichuhi garnered 2,675 votes edging out his competitor James Aggrey Mwamu who got 2,140.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen was among the first legislators who congratulated the newly elected president.

"My brother Allen Gichuhi Waiyaki, please accept my warm congratulations on your impressive victory in your election as the new LSK President. I wish you God’s grace as you serve us and the country. Be blessed," he tweeted.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) confirmed that they facilitated the boxes for the elections but stated that officials from Judiciary did the tallying of the votes.

"We are conducting the Law Society of Kenya polls which are now underway. There are 28 polling centres and 36 polling stations. Nairobi has 10 polling stations, 6 at Supreme Court, 4 at Milimani," the Commission tweeted on Thursday.

The election has been marred by controversy with Nairobi lawyer Nelson Havi moving to court to sue the LSK for barring him from vying.

Havi was disqualified from vying for the legal society's top seat because he had not attained 15 years in practice from the date of his admission as provided for by the law.

Kenyans.co.ke has established that Mr Gichuhi is a leading litigation advocate with over 17 years’ experience in commercial litigation and widely respected in the banking and corporate world for his unique skills.

Gichuhi is a Senior Partner at Wamae & Allen Advocates and he was ranked in Band 2 by Chambers Global in 2015.
