Raila's Tactics Venezuela's Opposition Leader David Smolansky Plans to Copy

Venezuelan Opposition leader, David Smolansky, has quoted Raila Odinga's swearing-in as the People's President as an inspiration for their next course of action in the country.

Speaking during BBC Hardtalk show, Smolansky indicated that they would draw inspiration from what is happening in Kenya as an alternative measure towards their democratic liberation.

"You want to hear my opinion; We need to go to an election by ourselves... something that is happening in Kenya. We need to elect our President, Vice President, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs someone who is responsible for the economy," he explained further.

Smolansky indicated that the Opposition was going to boycott the country's Presidential Elections slated for April 22, 2018, due to lack of transparency and fairness in the process.

The former mayor, who is in exile, maintained that they would instead opt to have a parallel people's government complete with ministers as an alternative measure.

"We are not going to this election. And now we are discussing different ways how to face this challenge," Smolansky stated.

Put to task whether such an action would yield the Opposition any benefits, the Opposition leader expressed confidence in the outcomes of the course.

In his opinion: "It will not be that symbolic. You will have the support of the people, the Parliament, and the international community. We could get (President) Maduro against the world again."

Raila's swearing has earned criticism locally and internationally with 11 Ambassadors and High Commissioners condemning the oathing as a violation of the constitution.
