NASA MPs to be Disciplined for Participating in Vetting Process

National Super Alliance (NASA) Members of Parliament (MPs) who participated in the vetting process of President Uhuru Kenyatta's nominees will face disciplinary action from the party after defying orders prohibiting them.

According to National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi, NASA had set out clear instructions prohibiting its members from participating in the vetting of Principal Secretaries (PS) and ambassadorial appointees.

However, some of the MPs went ahead and took part in the vetting process that was overseen by different parliamentary committees.

The Suba South MP and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman indicated that he would collect a list of NASA MPs that went contrary to the coalition directives.

"I would like to know the members who participated in the process and went against the party directives," Mbadi stated.

"Some of the members called me and enquired whether they should participate in the process and I clarified that they should not take part. This is an indication that they were fully aware of our position as a party," he added.

Mbadi added that their position "as ODM and NASA remains that we do not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as the President thus the MPs should not appear to endorse the legitimacy of his Presidency."

On his part, the ODM Secretary for Political Affairs Opiyo Wandayi indicated that he the MPs who went against the party directives should come clean.

NASA parliamentary leadership is expected to meet later in the week with Wandanyi further asserting that discipline must be upheld within the political parties.

It remains unclear what action will be taken against those who contravened the party's position including Caleb Amisi (Saboti), Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga), Patrick Makau (Mavoko), Justus Kizito (Shinyalu), Lilian Gogo (Rongo), and Ahmed Kolosh (Wajir West) among others.
