ODM MP Proposes Merging of NASA Affiliate Parties

Uriri Member of Parliament (MP), Mark Nyamita, has proposed the merging of NASA affiliate parties - Wiper Party, Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya to one party called NASA.

This would be similar to the formation of Jubilee Party which resulted from the merging of The National Alliance (TNA), United Republican Party (URP), Alliance Party of Kenya, New Ford-Kenya, Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP), United Democratic Forum (UDF), National Rainbow Coalition, Ford People, the Republican Congress Party (RC), Tip Tip, the United Party of Kenya (UPK), the Grand National Unity (GNU) and the Party of National Unity (PNU.

Alternatively, the ODM lawmaker has called upon Opposition leader Raila Odinga to quit the coalition and focus on strengthening his own party, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

"If other coalition partners still believe there is unity in the opposition we should be magnanimous enough to dissolve the affiliate parties and have one party called NASA. In the absence of that, then let us focus on ODM.

Raila Odinga needs to focus on strengthening ODM because truly it’s only ODM he can trust," he stated.

The Nyamita parliamentarian noted that other parties in the coalition are not committed in the coalition but are out there jeopardizing the outfit.

He noted that ODM should charter its own course because the other parties were not abiding the coalition's agreement adding that it was needless for the parties to claim unity for a course but leave it at the final hour.

“We are still open to negotiating with our colleagues, but what we have seen is that you cannot be surrounded by people who are taking you to marry a girl and they are interested in her more than you are and expect they will say good words about you to her,” he explained.

He further noted that other substitute parties in NASA should be grateful that ODM had sacrificed a lot for them in the sharing of leadership slots in Parliament.

A week ago, Odinga had hinted that ODM is willing to contest alone during the 2022 general election should there be disagreement with other parties.
