DP William Ruto's Meeting With Kiambu MPs Raises Eyebrows

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday held a meeting with legislators from Kiambu County.

Through his social media, the DP posted pictures of the MPs in his Karen office with a caption: "MPs are an important link between the people and the Executive. Constant dialogue and collaboration are critical to ensuring election pledges are fulfilled."

Among those present were Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba, Kimani Ichung'wah (Kikuyu), Peter Mwathi (Limuru), James Githua (Kabete) and Gabriel Kago (Githunguri).

Kenyans online were quick to comment on the post with many wondering if the consultation meeting was in readiness for the 2022 presidential race.

"Panga kazi Rais 2022 (Position yourself for the presidency in 2022)," one user quipped.

Another commented: "You have started preparing for 2022 very early. Call Tharaka Nithi leaders also."

Others noted that vocal Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was consciously missing from the meeting with one observer noting: "Moses Kuria was the photographer."

Earlier on Sunday, Kuria assured that the Kikuyu community was firmly behind the DP in the 2022 presidential race.

"If there are people who may want to abandon DP Ruto, maybe it will be Kalenjins. As for the Kikuyu community, we decided long ago and that is not negotiable.

"You know Kikuyus have money and our cheque cannot bounce. In the place where the amount is written, we have clearly indicated President 2022 and that is automatic.

"The cheque is with me and I will deliver it come 2022 so that he can cash it," he proclaimed at St Andrews Catholic Church Kipkenyo in Eldoret.
