Embakasi East MP Candidate Francis Mureithi's Latest Statement Creates Confusion

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino's rival, Francis Mureithi, on Tuesday, made a statement on his Facebook post that has created confusion regarding who actually won the seat.

Mureithi contradicted the reports revealed on Monday claiming that Babu Owino won according to the results of the votes recount done.

In the post, he stated: "Everybody will be surprised to know what is in the report after the scrutiny process."

He further divulged: "Final verdict will be given on Friday, March 2 by the court. I choose to hold my celebrations until the final announcement."

Mureithi was earlier reported stating that during the votes recount, there were a number of irregularities noted by the officials involved in the scrutiny.

"We have ballot boxes missing from six polling stations and cannot be found, Form 35A missing for over 60 stations others have no IEBC stamps and Officials Signatures. It’s evident the process was not conducted as per the rules," declared Mureithi.

According to a report filed on Monday by the High Court deputy registrar, Babu attained 46,817 votes against Mureithi's 42,501 votes.

The report, further disclosed that both the incumbent and Mureithi had registered an increase in votes after the recount.

The Court officials, Esther Mburu and Mbayaki Wafula, noted that the vote recount scrutiny process was a success, except for an incident where one of their phones was stolen.

However, Justice Joseph Sergon will on Friday, March 2, make a final ruling on the petition.
