Vihiga Senator George Khaniri Asks Raila Odinga to Hand Over NASA Leadership

Vihiga Senator George Khaniri has asked National Super Alliance (NASA) principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka to start preparing the succession process in the Coalition.

According to the Amani National Congress affiliated legislator, Raila and Kalonzo had failed to deliver Kenyans to 'the promised land - Canaan.'

"If they (Raila and Kalonzo) are unable to take Kenyans to Caanan, then they should start preparing to hand over the leadership to Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior and me," Khaniri stated.

He further praised Senator Mutula for his critical role in the Ukambani politics and termed him a hero.

The Senator indicated that it was high time that NASA Coalition got a fresh start by having young leaders take the leadership mantle from the older generation of leaders.

The Vihiga lawmaker was optimistic that the Opposition would be able to resolve the internal wrangles and survive even in the absence of both Raila and Kalonzo, emphasizing that NASA needs to be more assertive in its fight against poor governance.

The two Senators condemned the Jubilee government for what they claimed to be plundering of the economy.

However, they differed on the proposed changes in the constitution that seek to have the presidential powers reduced by introducing a Prime Minister's position.

On his part, Khaniri expressed: "A time has come for new leadership positions to be introduced so as to reduce the powers vested in the presidency."

Mutula Junior, however, was for the opinion that there needed to be constitutional changes that seek to ensure devolution is effective, more funds are allocated to the counties and the independence of the judiciary is safeguarded.
