Jubilee Members Threaten to Ditch Party

Jubilee members on Monday threatened to quit the ruling party claiming they had been shortchanged in sharing of Cabinet and Parliament positions.

The members who initially belonged to Economic Freedom Party (EFP), led by Chairman Issack Hassan Abey, faulted the President and his deputy William Ruto for breaking their promise of including them in cabinet appointments.

Mr Abey expressed the party's disappointment of being sidelined despite rallying Mandera county residents to support President Kenyatta's re-election.

He explained that they had been promised Parliament leadership positions and other Government positions, which the ruling party failed to honour.

He cited filling of various Parliamentary committee leadership and East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA), where none of their members was considered despite having a majority number of MPs and MCAs in the county.

“We are bitter to the extent that we have been used and dumped by the Jubilee Party. This marriage seems not to be working, and we are reviewing our relationship,” he stated.

During the August election, EFP had candidates in all elective seats except for the President, which it declared support for Uhuru's second term.

“We have five MPs against Jubilee’s two in Mandera, but we got no leadership position in Parliament. Nobody from our party was considered for EALA despite us voting for Uhuru to the last man.

"Parties that brought nothing have been awarded senior positions in Government," he asserted

Abey claimed that efforts to reach the senior Jubilee officials were futile as they were blocked from submitting their complaints.

"We have been trying to reach them, but they have been avoiding us," he lamented.
