President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday took to social media to share the story of how he met First lady Margaret Kenyatta for the first time, contradicting a story he told last year of the same event.
Kenyatta disclosed that he had gone swimming with his father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, when he spotted a young Margaret.
The senior Kenyatta, Kenya's founding President, nudged him to approach and befriend her, which he did.
"I first met Margaret when I was out swimming with my father and he nudged me to befriend her. I have now known her for most of my life. She is my friend, partner and strong supporter. Strong and successful women make a strong and successful Kenya. Happy International #WomensDay," Kenyatta tweeted.
In 2017, Kenyatta told a different story during a livestream on his official Facebook page where he answered questions from the public.

Back then, he explained that he met Margaret through a friend he went to school with.
“This is an interesting one. How did I meet the first lady? When I met the first lady, she wasn't the first lady. She was just another.... wonderful, beautiful girl. Ahhhh... let me say that I first met her brother and we were in secondary school together.
"We became friends and through him, I managed to meet his younger sister and we started off a relationship that has lasted from high school till now and I'm thankful to God for that,” he stated.
The contrasting stories raise more questions than answers.
Margaret Kenyatta had earlier spoken at the launch of the 2nd Strategic Framework (2018-2022) aimed at HIV Control, and promotion of maternal, new born and child health in Kenya.
Being Internatonal Womens Day, she noted that Kenya had made notable progress in gender equality, but explained that there was still a long way to go and urged everyone to play their part in realizing true gender equality.
