A student leader who spoke at the funeral demanded that the government should compensate the family for the death with Sh1 Billion.
"Currently there's a politician in court because his child was murdered and he is demanding Sh780 Million. We are demanding Sh1 Billion for Evans," the leader stated.

Lawyer Nelson Havi, who is handling the case pro-bono (free-of-charge), also attended the funeral where he urged the authorities to speed up investigations and deal with the officer responsible for the death.
"We demand Inspector General Joseph Boinnet to take action against the officer who killed Evans Njoroge. If he fails we, in partnership with Amnesty International, National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders – Kenya student leaders and the community will ensure justice for EvansNjoroge is found," Havi stated.
