Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Appoints PLO Lumumba to Chair Special Committee

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, has appointed PLO Lumumba to chair the Committee on the Finalization of Pending Bills and Audit.

The former Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Director will head a 10-man committee, whose job will be to review and clear pending debts for goods supplied and services rendered to previous administrations,

In a Gazette Notice dated March 9, Sonko directed suppliers and contractors with any pending bills claim against the county to submit them within the next 21 days for action.

The committee, whose lifespan is one year, was given one month to scrutinise all pending bills and present an interim report to the Governor on the way forward.

“The Committee will bring to finality the problem of pending bills claimed against the county government,” stated Governor Sonko.

The Lumumba-led team will also look into procurement processes and recommend measures to be taken to avoid accumulation of unpaid bills.

Former Law Society of Kenya Erick Mutua and Martin Wamae were named as co-chairs of the committee

Other members of the committee are Yusuf Murabwa, David Kangara, Timothy Naeku, Robert Mbatia, Wilfred Odalo, Maurice Juma and Charles Chege Kariuki.

He also appointed County Secretary Leboo ole Morintat and one representative each from the legal affairs department and the finance sector to serve in the secretariat.

Sonko noted that those who have been appointed to the committee are eminent persons of good public reputation.
