The Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly wants the Iranian Ambassador to Kenya, Dr. Hadi Farajvand, investigated over extortion and alleged meddling in terrorism cases.
Nyaribari Chache legislator Richard Tongi and his Yatta counterpart Charles Kilonzo addressed a press briefing on Thursday at Parliament buildings where they revealed how the envoy has allegedly been meddling in high-profile terrorism cases.
“We have been informed that the ambassador is actively involved in compromising key government officials to ensure that Ahmad Abolfathi Mohammed and Sayed Mansour Mousa, the two Iranians who were arrested in June 2012, charged and convicted for smuggling into Kenya explosives to carry out terror attacks are set free,” noted Kilonzo.
He further disclosed that Farajvand was colluding with officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to aid his schemes.
The announcement comes a month after after the Court of Appeal set free 2 Iranians who had been sentenced to life imprisonment on terror related charges in 2013.

In 2012, the High Court had found Ahamad Abolfathi Mohammed, and Sayed Mansour Mousavi, guilty of concealing 15 kilogrammes of bomb making material in the country.
On February 26, however, appelate judges Kihara Kariuki, Kathurima M’inoti and Agnes Murgor, ruled that there was not sufficient evidence to link the duo to the bomb-making material that was found at the Mombasa Golf Course.
The Iranian embassy, when reached for comment by Kenyans.co.ke, stated that they had not received any official communication from Parliament on the matter.
A representative promised to speak on the issue once the revelations had been communicated to them through official channels.
The Foreign Relations Committee asked CS Monica Juma to intervene in the situation.
