3 Bodies Found at Kamulu After Heavy Nairobi Rainfall

Three people have been confirmed dead following heavy rainfall experienced in Nairobi on Thursday.

The bodies were found at the Kamulu bridge along Kangundo road and are yet to be identified.

The heavy rains also led to the closure of Mombasa Road after a bridge at Stoni Athi area was washed away causing traffic stretching tens of kilometers.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) issued a statement urging motorists on the highway to use alternative routes through Kangundo as Athi River was impassable.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Friday morning announced the reopening of the road after several repairs were carried out overnight.

"Mombasa road is now open after the repair of the bridge. Kangundo road is also now open for traffic.

"Machakos Emergency team has worked overnight to save lives and no one is stranded. We are sad after retrieving three male bodies on the Kamulu bridge on Kangundo road," he remarked.

Elsewhere, five people were killed after they were swept away by flash floods in Mwingi East Constituency, Kitui County.

Reports indicate that the five were on a lorry transporting charcoal before being washed away by floods.

Mwingi Central police boss John Nyamu urged residents to avoid crossing rivers when it is raining. He further asked residents to be careful when water levels rise.

Two others were swept away in Narok on Tuesday, with police noting some deaths may have gone unreported elsewhere in the country.
