Raila Announces Plan to Revive Stalled Grand Coalition Government Projects

Following his decision to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta, National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has announced that he will revive projects initiated by the Grand Coalition Government that stalled after the end of his stint as Prime Minister.

Speaking at Willy Kaino Kilimo's (Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Treasurer Olga Karani's father) burial in Elgeyo-Marakwet on Saturday,  Odinga stated that he would start with the Iten-Kapsowar Road.

“I initiated the construction of the Iten- Kapsowar road. I am going to ensure these projects are completed, now that I have pledged to work with the government,” he declared.

He further explained that his decision to meet President Kenyatta was necessary for the country to move forward.

“This country is facing many challenges and that is why we found it necessary to meet, sit down and see where we have come from, see how we had found ourselves here and where we are headed. We had to swallow our pride and meet for the sake of this country,” the opposition chief conveyed.

Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who also spoke at the event, described Raila as a selfless leader who would put the country's interests before his own.

Murkomen stated: “I have been on record telling people that Raila Odinga is a respected leader who has seen ahead, even beyond 2022. This is why we want him to be given an official office and good pay so that he can serve Kenyans.”

He also dismissed speculation that Raila's move to work with Uhuru was meant to scuttle Deputy President William Ruto's stab at the Presidency in 2022.

Raila disclosed that in 2013, it was he who advised Murkomen to run on an United Republican Party (URP) ticket and not an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

At the burial that was also attended by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Senator James Orengo and former Inspector-General of Police David Kimaiyo, the oppostion boss revealed that Karani was like his daughter, describing her as a hardworking and transparent woman.

“I am here today to mourn with Olga because she is like my daughter,” Raila noted.
