Woman Convicted of Killing Husband Mysteriously Disappears from Kisumu Court

Panic bogged a Kisumu High court after a woman mysteriously disappeared from the chambers minutes after being convicted for the murder of her husband.

Martha Auma Nyagol had been arraigned in court on charges of murdering her husband Mr Jared Ochieng Otieno.

Judge David Majanja on Wednesday found her guilty for the act that occurred on May 2014 at Kanyakwar Village in Kisumu East District.

He cancelled her bond and ordered that Auma be taken to custody awaiting sentencing on April 11.

Following the ruling, the convict was spotted talking with the prison warden before she walked out of the courtroom.

Justice Majanja noticed that his orders were not being followed as he was handling another case.

He called on court clerk to find out the whereabouts of the convict: “I thought I had convicted the woman and ordered that she be in custody, where has she gone to?”

At which point he adjourned the court on the basis of a security breach.

Police officers commenced a search of the woman after word went round that she had disappeared.

While delivering the judgement, Justice Majanja noted that matrimonial problems could have caused Auma to kill her husband by strangling him.

"On my evaluation of the evidence, I find and hold that the accused was alone in the house on a material night when on her own admission, she strangled the deceased.

"The act of strangling a person is cold, calculated and deliberate. It is intended to cause death and accordingly constitutes malice aforethought," he observed.
