Mandera North MP Drops Motion to Impeach Health CS Sicily Kariuki

Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has survived the ouster pushed by Members of Parliament.

Announcing the withdrawal of the motion that sought the removal of the CS, Majority Leader Aden Duale stated that the party has resolved to deal with the issues internally.

During a presser, Duale stated: " We want to confirm to our members and the country that the motion that these colleagues have filed against our sister minister for Health Sicily Kariuki is off, it has been withdrawn.

"We have given the leadership in and out of the house the opportunity to resolve the matter," he asserted.

Mandera North MP Bashir Abdullahi withdrew the motion on Thursday after being assured that the party would resolve his concerns and those of the other 170 parliamentarians who signed in support of the motion.

According to Abdullahi, the lawmaker noted that he was pushing for CS Kariuki’s impeachment on grounds of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The CS had been faulted by lawmakers for suspending Kenyatta National Hospital CEO Lily Koros over the brain surgery mix-up incident at the facility.

According to the MPs, suspending Koros was unprocedural of the Cabinet Secretary before commissioning an inquiry into the matter.

The MPs also alleged that during previous interactions with CS Kariuki, she has displayed arrogance and lack of respect for elected leaders.

The move comes barely a week after Duale requested the lawmakers spearheading impeachment of CS Kariuki to let the issue be handled by the Jubilee Parliamentary Group.
