A woman who escaped from a Kisumu court on Wednesday after being convicted for murder returned and presented herself to the court on Thursday, offering her sincerest apologies.

Through her lawyer Steve Odumbe, Martha Nyagol explained that as she thought she was to return because she was still out on bond.

“My client has never absconded hearings. She regrets what transpired," Odumbe told judge David Majanja.

Agol's sister Lilian Ajuang explained that every court date had come with a date of return and, therefore, they thought it was okay for Nyagol to leave.

She disclosed that they only realized something was wrong when the lawyer started calling them to establish Nyagol's whereabouts.

“My sister’s phone was off. She charged and switched it on at around 5 pm and that's when got the messages so we came back today," Ajuang stated.

Nyagol is accused of murdering her husband on the night of May 16, 2014.

However, she maintains that she was forced to do it by 3 men who stormed her house and dragged her husband from the bathroom before ordering her to strangle him with a white belt.
