Victor Wanyama's Mother Mildred Ayiemba Loses KNF Presidency

Mildred Ayiemba, the mother of Kenyan footballer Victor Wanyama, was dethroned as Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) President following an election on Saturday.

Ayiemba lost to Nyeri-based sports consultant Immaculate Wambui Kabutha in the poll held at City Hall.

Kabutha garnered 56 votes while Ayiemba secured 7.

Ayiemba has been in office since 2014 when she was first elected President.

The election also saw the federation choose a new Secretary and Treasurer.

Long-serving secretary Lilian Annupi was replaced by national netball team coach Millicent Busolo. Annupi got 9 votes while Busolo garnered 56.

Soffy Makoba lost her Treasurer's seat to Anne Bett who got 53 votes while Makoba managed 7.

The outgoing treasurer, Esther Mukene, did not defend her seat.

The new President pledged to oversee the federation's constitutional review, registration of the federation with the Sports Registrar, affiliation to continental and international netball bodies and revision of the 2018 KNF calendar of events. 

In the other races;  Joseph Nzioka Makau was elected Umpires and Fixtures secretary, Jona Kimagut clinched the vice chair’s position unopposed, and high school teacher,  Elly Amolo, was chosen to be the next Vice Secretary.
