Kisumu Residents Demand Miguna Miguna's Release Before Uhuru's Nyanza Tour

A section of supporters of self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna has taken to the streets of Kondele, Kisumu protesting his detention at Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi.

The group, made of youth, ordered President Uhuru Kenyatta to see to it that the outspoken lawyer is produced from detention before he visits the region.

The Head of State is expected to have a tour in Nyanza in the next few days following his historic handshake with NASA leader Raila Odinga

The youth began by pushing huge rocks onto the main highway linking Kisumu and Kakamega towns, forcing traffic to use the alternative but longer routes.

It is reported that they chanted: "No Miguna, No Peace!"

They also carried placards demanding justice for the outspoken lawyer.

Some set old tyres in flames while others were seen wearing t-shirts with labels of "resist", a slogan promoted by Miguna to defy against President Kenyatta's administration.

The protesters staged demos after Dr Miguna spent the third day in the JKIA cells.

Despite Justice Roselyn Aburili's directive to the Immigration Department to release Miguna, the government defied the order.

On Wednesday, Judge George Odunga ordered Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to appear before the court in the afternoon.
