Nyanza Leaders Accuse Uhuru of Insincerity

A section of Nyanza leaders has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of not being sincere about his agreement to work with NASA leader Raila Odinga.

Led by Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch, the legislators stated that Miguna Miguna's latest saga is a humiliation to Odinga.

“Up to now, the terms of the handshake are not known. The humiliation meted to Odinga over Miguna saga and blatant disregard of court orders, point only to one fact; the handshake was meant to break NASA," remarked Aluoch.

His sentiments were echoed by Uriri MP Mark Nyamita who accused President Kenyatta of turning a blind eye on Miguna.

“The continued disregard of the court orders and Miguna’s treatment is against human rights and the President cannot sit back and watch unless he is presiding over lawlessness,” he remarked.

Seme MP James Nyikal added that Kenyatta is not sincere or maybe 'he is not the one in charge of the country.'

ODM National Treasurer Timothy Bosire, on the other hand, added that Kenyans were ready to forget the past but the actions and inactions of the government were worrying.

Nyanza clerics also asked President Kenyatta to keep his word and ensure peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.

Led by the Nyanza council of church leaders chairman Bishop Washington Ogonyo-Ngede, the clergy said the actions meted against Mr Miguna were slowly reigniting tension in the region.

The leaders said the government’s actions against Miguna and the move to deport him against court orders, was an ‘insult’ to an agreement signed by the two leaders on March 9.

Mr Odinga, during his tour of parts of Nyanza two weeks ago, assured residents that his famous handshake with President Kenyatta would have positive results.

The former Prime Minister added that the new working relationship would address compensation of victims of the 2017 post-election violence, historical injustices, restoration of Nasa leaders’ security details as well as allowing Dr Miguna back into the country.
