Emirates Responds to Claims of Govt Blackmail Over Miguna's Return

Emirates Airline on Friday refuted claims that the Kenyan government had threatened to deny it landing rights if they brought back troubled NRM general Miguna Miguna.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the airline stated that it was not aware of the directive and no flights had been cancelled.

"We are not aware of such a directive. Flights to Nairobi are operating normally," stated a communication official.

Miguna had earlier claimed that Emirates refused to fly him back due to orders from above.

"It’s more than 13 hours since I was violently dumped at the Dubai following my assault, drugging and being placed in Emirates Air unconscious.

"So far, Air Emirates has refused to return me to Nairobi. It argues that the illegitimate Uhuru Kenyatta government has threatened to deny them landing rights if they fly with me to Nairobi.

"Emirates Air has also claimed that it was forced to carry me unconscious with no travel documents because the state had refused to allow them permission to leave," wrote the Canadian-based lawyer.

On Thursday, one of Miguna's Lawyers, Nelson Havi, had also alleged that the United Arab Emirates would cancel flights to Kenya but the UAE Embassy refuted those claims as baseless.

Miguna is currently in Dubai after the government deported him on grounds of renouncing Kenyan citizenship.

He claimed that he was drugged and passed out before he was bundled onto a Dubai-bound Emirates flight on Wednesday evening.

"I’m sore. I’m exhausted. I’m feeling ill. But my spirit is strong. My mind is focused like a laser beam. My determination is iron-clad.

"Fear isn’t part of my DNA! The struggle against police brutality, social injustice, electoral fraud, looting of public resources and elite conspiracies must continue.

"We must defend the rule of law, constitution and our nascent democracy," he stated on Thursday.
